Maude Harriet Sando - A Story by Cheryl

Part One

Tears rolled down her cheeks as the minister put the holy water on the baby’s forehead. Her knees wobbled as they passed her the baby. This would be her namesake. Like her the baby was being baptized Maude Harriet Sando. This was her first grate granddaughter. Sarah her grand-daughter wept too as they laid the baby in her grandmothers arms. Maude’s husband Wilbert stood be sided her proudly smiling, he winked at her she then knew it would be okay.

Her Great- Great Grandmother Maude Harriet Sando (Lamerson was her maiden name) was born July 15, 1897 in New York City. She was the third of 13 kids and the oldest girl.

She had gone to school for five years, now Maude stayed home to help mother with the younglings’. Her two older brothers worked in the mines with their dad.

They lived in a medium size house that father and her two older brothers had built. The house had five bedrooms. Maude, Jessie, Mary, and little one (her name was really Margret) but, she was the youngest girl and everyone called her Little One all shared a bed and a room.

The boys had two, each had set sets of bunk beds and Johnny had his own bed, and Mother and Father had a room the last one was a sewing room where the girls and mother would do their sewing. They made clothes as well as did mending for their neighbors.
